Roald Amundsen

a

Roald Amundsen was built in 1952 for the National People’s Army of the former GDR.

In 1992, shipbuilder Detlev Loell and his friends from the association Learn to Live on Sailing Ships converted it into a brig as part of an unemployment reduction program. Roald Amundsen undertook its first voyage in 1993 under the command of Immo von Schnurbein, a former captain of the German Navy’s sailing ship Gorch Fock.
Although Roald Amundsen does not offer luxuries, it is well equipped with the latest communication and safety equipment on board. The ship has participated in the Tall Ships’ Races multiple times, including the race from Cádiz to Amsterdam as part of the Tall Ships’ 2000 Transatlantic Race. The ship was a guest at the Tall Ships Races 2024 in Szczecin.
